Turning 60 was a significant milestone, marking not just the passage of time but a continuation of my journey in life and photography. After 27 years in the US Coast Guard and transitioning into a fulfilling career as a landscape photographer, my life has been shaped by discipline, adventure, and a deep passion for capturing the beauty of the natural world.

To celebrate this moment, I ventured to Lassen Volcanic National Park—a place I had never explored before. My goal was not only to photograph the stunning landscapes but also to honor the sense of wonder and adventure that has defined my life. Each shot was a reflection of my journey—my service in the Coast Guard, cherished memories with my children and grandchildren, and the countless moments behind the lens. Turning 60 wasn’t just a number; it was a celebration of a life enriched by experiences, family, and the love of photography.

Bob Seger’s song “Like a Rock” resonates deeply with me, especially the lines: “20 years now, where’d they go? 20 years, I don’t know I sit, and I wonder sometimes Where they’ve gone?” For me, it’s been over 40 years, and I often find myself reflecting on where the time has gone.

My 60th birthday adventure in Lassen was a reminder of the gratitude I feel for the life I’ve lived. It was more than just another photography trip; it was a celebration of life, love, and the joy I find in capturing the essence of a landscape. As I continue exploring new horizons with my camera, I carry these memories with me—a testament to the enduring power of photography and the wild, beautiful places it reveals.
